Getting Started With Application Styling

As promised, here is a getting started video on Applicatoin Styling, and using AppStylist for ASP.NET.  Feel free to post any comments or questions here.  The video is about 15 minutes long.  I used Visual Studio 2005, but Application Styling will also work with earlier versions (yes, even the original "Visual Studio .NET" [7.0]).

Tony,

Nice content in the video though I really couldn't see the video contents very clearly. I can email you a screen capture if you'd like to see how it looked on my monitor when I tried to watch it.

The video is actually extrememly clear when I play it back, however I did notice that the screen resolution is a bit large.  I'm going to re-encode it and shrink it down to 800X600.  I think the reason it looks blurry for you is because the video is being shrunk to fit in your window.  I'll post a comment after I update the video.

I've updated the video to be 800X600 - hopefully this takes care of the clarity problems you have reported.  Tom I'm assuming you were reporting video clarity quality problems as well?  If so, hopefully this fixes that.

You include a template for web sites, but what about web applications (supported with VS 2005 SP1)?

For the initial release, we only have the website template.  We're hoping to have a web application template created soon as well.  In the mean time, you can copy the necessary files (web.config and /ig_res/*) into your web application.

I am using Visual Web Developer and using NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 1 CLR 2.0. I tried to follow the instructions in the above video but came across a small problem.

I created a new style library based on existing RubberBlack style. But when I click on any of the controls at the top i.e. Grid or Editors or Tree I cannot see the preview of selected control. Just shows me blank white space. I can click on Canvas Option and get to see the options available for the relavant control but cannot see the preview.

Did I miss something?

Hi Aisha - sounds like a bug to me.  If you haven't already done so, you should contact our Developer Support department.

Is there anyway to change the dataset being used in the AppStylist?  I would prefer to use some of our actual data when styling things like Grids and Trees.

There's currently no way to customize the canvases, though this soudns like a great idea.  The recommended solution would be to 'apply' the styleset to your application and preview your changes there.
