Anything and everything ASP.NET and more. Expect to see tips and tricks, opinions on new technology, and fun code samples, along with the occasional rant.
It's finally here!

For those who have been asking, NetAdvantage 2007 Volume 2 is finally here.  There's some really cool stuff in this release including a released version of our Gauge, a PDF/XPS writer, and an Excel Importer.  For all of you ASP.NET developers, you'll be happy to know that we did a bit of work on Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  Not the black magic sort of stuff that you get spam about every day, we made real tangible changes.  In particular, we ensured that when a search engine identifies itself as such, we give it a search engine friendly page using search engine bread and butter... hyperlinks.  This will eliminate the need for you to declare a separate sitemap or robots file, and will allow the search engine to automatically crawl your site using the links on your page.

What's my favorite feature?  The new samples of course (http://samples.infragistics.com)  You knew I'd have to pick the project I worked on... :)  If you've been keeping up with my blog, this project has been the source of the past few tips and tricks posts.  Let me know what you think.  I recommend using IE7 or FF2, but everything should also work in IE6.  If you have problems or questions.. consider this your place to be heard.

Are there any future plans to make the Infragistic Web Controls compatible with the Opera Web Browser?

In the past I've found that there weren't many issues working with Opera.  The bigger issue was finding QA and Development resources to ensure that there were no issues.  I'm not sure what the current plan is, but I do know that browser compatibility has been a hot topic around here recently.  You should email your question and thoughs on this topic to productmanager@infragistics.com

How about a PDF Writer control for ASP.NET!! I would love to stick with a single package to handle all of my presentation layer needs instead of multiple packages with multiple licensing models.  I need a PDF writer that can take like a Panel control and its contents and export that to a PDF file!

Thanks!

Brad - You may want to contact our customer service department and have them verify your email address.  Also as a precaution, add infragistics.com to your email whitelist.  Because of the extremely large number of emails we send out when a release occurs, many mail servers flag them as possible spam.

Brent - I don't think you're going to have to wait too much longer for one.. ;)  I'll pass your feedback on to the Product Manager, along with your use case.

I'm with Brent - A PDF writer for ASP.NET is at the top of my wish list.  And if it could output the contents of a datagrid in PDF format you'd have an instant report generator!

Thanks -- Greg

I like the new samples, Tony. It's cool to see samples that are more than bind to products table in Northwind :).

I found an issue or two with IE 6 (I know you recommended IE 7) so I'll email you the screen captures to check out.

Greg - I will indeed pass this info on.  It might be a good idea for you to email your request to productmanager as well.

Zack - thanks for the feedback. I'll check out the email and see if I can figure out what went wrong :)

I like the new samples for the NetAdvantage 2007 Volume 2 release. However, where can I find the source codes for the Portfolio Manager (http://samples.infragistics.com/2007.2/webshowcase/portfoliomanager/default.aspx). ? I like a few tricks in that samples.

Anthony Look in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Infragistics\NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Vol. 2 CLR 2.0\Samples\ASP.NET\WebShowcase

There you will find the code you are looking for.
