Infragistics Support for Visual Studio 2008

Infragistics has been working with Visual Studio 2008 (formerly codename "Orcas") for quite some time.  As Devin posted here regarding our ASP.NET controls, Infragistics is making a final push toward ensuring compatibility of the NetAdvantage for .NET toolset with the released version of Visual Studio 2008.

So, what does that mean for existing versions of the NetAdvantage for .NET toolset?  More specifically, what does that mean for people who would like to request assistance from Infragistics Developer Support when using Visual Studio 2008 and version 3.5 of the .NET Framework?

NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1 will be the first release of the toolset designed for compatibility with Visual Studio 2008.  In addition to supporting ASP.NET 2.0 and Windows Forms 2.0 projects created within Visual Studio 2008, it will also provide support for ASP.NET 3.5 projects using assemblies compiled natively for use with version 3.5 of the .NET Framework, as well as creating ASP.NET 3.5 and Windows Forms 3.5 projects using the versions of the assemblies compiled for version 2.0 of the .NET Framework.  (Note that we are not releasing our Windows Forms assemblies compiled natively for version 3.5 of the .NET Framework.)

In the meantime, Infragistics will provide support when using NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 3 with Visual Studio 2008.  We have performed, and are continuing to perform, testing of this combination of product and development environment.  The only exception is that, for any compatibility issues specific to Visual Studio 2008, a hot fix will not be applied to NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 3; instead, the issue will be addressed in the release of NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1.

You may have noticed that our Supported Environments page does not yet list Visual Studio 2008 or version 3.5 of the .NET Framework.  Once NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1 is released, we'll add the appropriate entries to the Supported Environments page.  Additionally, once NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1 is released, we will no longer provide further support for using NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 3 with Visual Studio 2008.

On a related note, NetAdvantage for WPF 2007 Volume 1 (and subsequent versions) are already supported for use with the released version of Visual Studio 2008.  Infragistics will provide how-to support and hot fixes as normal with this combination of product and development environment.

I would like to group by a row. I use :

Private Sub mygrd_InitializeGroupbyRow(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As InitializeGroupByRowEventArgs) Handles mygrd.InitializeGroupByRow

       If e.Row.IsGroupByRow Then

           btnAdd.Enabled = False    'It's ok

       Else

           btnAdd.Enabled = True

       End If

End Sub

It only do when the row is group, by not when the row is ungroup.

Romell,

If what you've got is working with NetAdvantage for .NET 2006 Volume 3 in Visual Studio 2008, then that's great.  You haven't encountered any compatibility issues between the two.

I don't have any specific examples of what "will" and "won't" work with earlier releases of NetAdvantage for .NET in conjunction with Visual Studio 2008, but I do know that there are some things that won't work.  You likely aren't using any of these things that won't work.

The major difference is that Infragistics won't be able to provide you with help if you encounter a compatibility issue when using one of these older versions of NetAdvantage for .NET in conjunction with Visual Studio 2008.  We'll be able to test with Visual Studio 2005 (or Visual Studio 2003, as appropriate), and we'll fix problems that we can reproduce there as per our normal support and maintenance procedures - but if the problem only occurs in Visual Studio 2008 with that older version, the best suggestion we'll be able to give is to upgrade to a more recent version.

If what you've got is "not broken," my advice is "don't fix it."  If it does break, however, there's a chance that "upgrade" may be a required part of the fix.
