NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1 Installers Re-released

As Devin mentions in this blog post, Infragistics identified a late-breaking problem in the release of NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1.  This problem occurred when binding WebGrid to a hierarchical DataSet, where when the first parent record displayed on the grid had no child records, an exception would be thrown.

Today, Infragistics has re-released the installers for NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1.  These updated installers include a fix for this problem.

Licensed customers can access these updated installers from the My Keys and Downloads page of our website.  Both trial and licensed customers can access these updated installers from the Latest Downloads page of our website.

Because we have replaced the installers available on our website, all future downloads of the product (trial or licensed) will already include this fix.

Do I need to apply this updated installer?
If you are not encountering the above-mentioned problem, you do not need to apply this update.  The only difference between the installers released on February 19 and these updated installers are changes to the WebGrid assembly to fix this specific problem.

I don't want to uninstall and reinstall.  Will this change be available in a hot fix?
The changes made in the updated installer will also be available in the first hot fix for NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1, as well as all subsequent hot fixes.  If you are not currently encountering this problem, but expect that you might in the future, you may be able to wait until the first hot fix is released.

How do I tell if I installed with the original installer or the new installer?
Take a look at the Infragistics.WebUI.UltraWebGrid.v8.1.dll file.  If the datestamp on the file is 2/14/2008, then you are using the original installer.  If the datestamp is instead 2/19/2008, then you are using the updated installer that includes this fix.  No other files were changed.

Please contact Developer Support if you have problems with or technical questions about this fix.

What is the estimated release date of the NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 hot-fix release 1? I submitted a bug report a quite a while ago, in which your incident status says "fixed" for it yet it wasn't released with the 2008 release. My code is still broken and yet you are releasing a pseudo hot fix to correct a WebGrid  problem without releasing the fix for my problem which you've already completed.

Hello,

I'm waiting this explanation... the release was available before this info. Expecting to know if download or not this new re-release. Because yeah... the files are BIG.

But.. only for a dll was re-upload the installers?...

Only for a .dll i have that download the full setup files?...

Then.. Apply only to ASP.NET?... I have checked the file sizes and i have noted that the setup for Win development has been changed too.

I think that the correct way should be place the hotfix to download in a separate file.

Regards

César,

Thank you for your feedback.

The installer for NetAdvantage for Windows Forms includes a trial installation of NetAdvantage for ASP.NET, so it was also affected and needed to be re-released.  If you are only using NetAdvantage for Windows Forms 2008 Volume 1, and you downloaded the original installation package, you do not need to download this update.

We could not publish this in a regular hot fix in the same timeframe.  We considered providing a single-file download, but this would not have been easy to administer, and would entail an extra step between now and the first hot fix release.  Re-releasing the installer allowed us to get the change into our customer's hands quickly, including in our trial installers, without a separate download.

As I mentioned, the change will be included in the first hotfix for NetAdvantage for .NET 2008 Volume 1.
