Hot Fixes Delayed - April 2008

We had a major technical issue last week.  Microsoft has helped us through the issue, which is now resolved.  However, this did put us back a few days, and has forced us to delay the hot fixes most recently scheduled for release April 4.

The next private hot fix for NetAdvantage for JSF is now scheduled for release on April 9 April 11.   This date was updated shortly after this message was originally posted.

The next private hot fixes for NetAdvantage for .NET and NetAdvantage for TestAdvantage for Windows Forms (HP-QTP) are now scheduled for release on April 11.

We recognize that significant delays have come up with these hot fixes, and we regret the impact that this is having on your development cycle.  Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to get these hot fixes out to our customers as soon as possible.

give the delays can you consider making these fixes public right away?

The reason we release hot fixes "privately" first and "publicly" later is so that we can do more thorough regression testing.  We normally only publish the "private" hot fix to those who have logged an issue that is fixed in that specific hot fix, or who specifically request it.  Once we're comfortable that no major regression issues will arise (often 1-2 weeks), we'll publish that hot fix publicly.

Once the private hot fix is released, if you weren't provided download information but still want the private hot fix anyway, you simply need to submit a support request to ask for it.

Well we have dates which were buffered but still committed which were purely based on the release date mentioned in your website. Atleast a tentative date would be really helpful to work with.

Also we have not been able to use the product for three months now because we have been waiting for the hotfixes. Our license time is also getting wasted.

Cheers!

A quick update:

We won't be able to get the hot fix out today as we thought we would.  Our director of Quality Engineering will be posting additional information to our forums later today, likely after business hours.  I'll provide a link here once I have the chance to do so.

Well, I checked back here hoping to find the Hotfixes that have been promised for so, so long.

What I found were more disappointments.  Our company owner has already asked me to remove the Infragistics components from our current project because he's frustrated that there is no professional product maintenance oversight at IG.  I was hoping to find a hotfix here and save ourselves some work, but I should have known better.

Vincent, here are some personal observations from another software development manager:

1) These delays make IG look extraordinarily unprofessional.  Responsible developers stick to their promises and add additional resources, if necessary, to get the job done ON TIME.  (That's what we're now doing after being delayed for WEEKS waiting for deliveries promised by IG that never materialized.)

2) IF a software engineer that I supervise ever came to me on the day that he was to have delivered a project element to tell me that he had encountered a "major technical issue" and this was the FIRST that I had heard about it, I would strongly suspect that he was lying to me about why he had missed his commitment.  "Major" issues generally don't manifest in the last WEEK before delivery of a complex project.  This kind of "issue" tells your customers (also in the development business) that you're not nearly as far along as you should be (e.g. you're not applying the necessary attention, and consequently not the necessary resources, to the project.

3) IG needs to prioritize product maintenance over new development work.  Why?  Because products in the field represent commitments that IG has already made and for which IG has already been paid.  The product representation is that it comes with maintenance and support.  The reasonable legal presumption is that the maintenance and support are reasonably provided (that is, they don't preclude constructive work with the product).  IG's maintenance of our purchase has put our use of the components we purchased from you at a DEAD STOP.  Note: This isn't a warranty issue.  This is a product representation issue.

Again, I URGE STRENUOUSLY that IG adopts and adheres to a professionally managed, reasonable, achievable timeframe for the development and release of product maintenance hotfixes.

We have not been able to use the product since december because the bugs raised by our development team have not yet been fixed, or if they have been fixed have not yet been released. It's truly a dissapointment because existing products are not being given priority, due to the development of new products or whatever reason.

We have a one year support period and license and we have not been able to use IG extenisvely because of these bugs. When we ask for a status update on the chat support facility, the only answer we get is this very same URL and that are some regression issues.

No concrete timeless are ever spoken off.

I only hope that the current hot fixes really have most of the bugs resolved and is released ASAP.
